Meet Dr Ali

BMedSc, MBBS, DCH, FRACGP, NDC Practitioner

I'm a mother of twins and a specialist general practitioner with a passion for all things women’s health, fertility and child health.

My clinical practice focuses on providing personalised, sensitive care to women and families from preconception, through pregnancy to the postpartum period and beyond.

I am privileged to assist families from the very beginning of their parenting journey with pregnancy planning and fertility assessments. Having my own lived experience of infertility, I appreciate the physical and mental toll that trying to conceive can have on prospective parents.

As an NDC practitioner supporting families with breastfeeding, baby sleep and cry-fuss problems, I work collaboratively with parents, helping them to feel more confident to trust their instincts during this often overwhelming time.

Dr Ali is based in Avalon on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. She provides face to face appointments in her Avalon clinic, home visits on the Northern Beaches and Telehealth appointments. She also provides reproductive health appointments in the Sydney CBD.

As new research emerges, guidelines change.

When I was in medical school and GP training, the advice was to introduce complementary foods between 4-6 months of age, whenever babies were showing signs of readiness. 

The current recommendation by the WHO and NHMRC Australian Infant Feeding Guidelines is to introduce solid foods at around six months (or within a few weeks of this age).

Waking overnight is developmentally normal and common in infants. There are times when sleep can be particularly challenging, such as during developmental leaps, periods of increased separation anxiety or when your little one is unwell with a viral illness.

Whilst they aren’t the most likely reason for night waking, it is important to consider and rule out medical conditions which could be contributing to sleep disruption in your little one. Common culprits are iron deficiency, sleep apnoea and uncontrolled eczema.
